How We Deal With Food Waste
When you are catering for 8 mountain bikers over multiple days, it is imperative you find a way to put your food waste to good use.
To do this, we've built partnerships with two businesses in Northern Tasmania to ensure our food waste doesn't go to landfill, and instead, is used in a positive and productive manner.
Edible Food Waste
Any of our edible food waste is packed away in neat little containers (you may see our Experience Leaders doing this after your dinner) and dropped to Youth Futures in Launceston. Youth Futures is a registered charity dedicated to supporting and empowering at-risk youth. We drop our edible food directly to there crisis accommodation for young men (13-20 years old) in Launceston.
Inedible Food Waste
Any food waste that is inedible for human consumption we place in big compost containers and then drop these to Karoolalla Farm. Karoolalla Farm is a boutique farm in beautiful Tasmania's North East where they use biological farming methods to grow delicious fruit and vegetables, raise animals on pasture aiming to improve the health and diversity of there land. What does our inedible food specifically do at Karoolalla? It feeds there chooks! We joke that these chooks are the best fed chooks in Tasmania!
